Question for the gliders on this forum. Would it technically be possible to soar over sea, during night? At night, when the sea is warmer than land, you can see lights flicker above the water. E.g. when you see a city in the distance.

Guess that means there are thermals? But would it work, visibility aside.

Hello everyone.

It would be a great feature if you could e.g. store the webcams of the flying sites (link/images.jpg). These could then be displayed in METAR TAF or also shown in the LIVE view. It would only have to be ensured that the stored links are https-encrypted and the graphics are regularly updated or loaded when the page is called up. In the LIVE view, an auto-refresh would possibly have to be carried out, which could possibly be specified by the user during the deposit (update every 1..

As you might have noticed, we're currently struggling to keep the map tile server up-and-running. Since yesterday evening (CET), the tile server crashes every few hours without any notice or errors.

When this happens Metar-Taf.com will automatically fall back to the tile servers of OpenStreetMap. It still works, but the resolution will be lower and the colors are not optimized for aviation and our nightmode views. If you don't see the alternative map, please refresh the page.

Please don't drop the current "2022" layout entirely. It is just perfect. I just tested the new 2023 one just for the heck of it, it's not bad, but the current one is just sooo perfect that I'd really be sad to see it go anytime soon.

I love the livestream feature, but I'm curious, what are the series of "lights" around the compass, some green, some yellow, some flashing? Can't quite figure that one out.

We used the embed feature to show METAR/TAFs of some airports on our Sharepoint Website. After an update, it doesn't work anymore, as Sharepoint would only allow the iframe-Format. Does any one face the same problems and has maybe even a solution, so we can still embed the METARs somehow?

The METAR and SIGMET map now also features a live mode. Zoom in on an area of interest and click on the TV icon start a livestream. The VFR/IFR/MVFR/LIFR markers on the map and SIGMETs will be updated every 100 seconds.

The Livestream is very nice!

However, every time I open it, it shows a black menu bar at the top (option to edit layout and other things). Normally I don't want to change the layout, so it's a bit annoying. Is there an opportunity that this menu bar doesn't appear every time?

I found out, that I can close the black menu bar by clicking somewhere. But it's still annoying that it appears every time I open the Livestream view. :(

Very nice and usefull portal, thank you! Please, let me note a minor misspelling of Italian language. I'm looking at the METAR section of LIBN: the column reporting present weather in the METAR "history" is labeled "Tempo metereologico", while the correct spelling is "Tempo meteorologico".

Currently, notifications are sent for new SIGMETs in your area, new forum posts that might be of interest or when somebody replied in a forum topic you've participated in.

Hello! There are some errors in the map, the names of locations appear as if they are partly erased and other locations - which have Arabic names - their Arabic names appear inverted from the right hand side to the left hand side and the letters are separated which is abnormal.

temperature for LIPZ seems to be currently stuck. Starting from timecode 2023-02-16 09:20, the decoded temperature is stuck at 0 whereas the raw METAR shows the actual value ranging between 4 and 8 C.
